Scale Mount Washington in a 19th century cable car for a fun ride with breathtaking views. The ride is a 400-foot incline and brings you breathtaking views of the Pittsburgh skyline and the city’s three rivers. When uphill, visit the museum to learn more about Pittsburgh history as well as inclines from all over the world. A few restaurants overhanging the mountain are a stone’s throw away, and so is the stunning Grandview Overlook. The Duquesne Incline is cash-only so be prepared. Paid parking is available across the street from the Duquesne incline’s lower station.

Ways to Get There

Downtown Pittsburgh Duquesne Incline
Method: Walking Time: 25-30 min
Walking from downtown Pittsburgh to the Duquesne Incline takes approximately 25-30 minutes. The route crosses over one of the bridges (Fort Pitt or Fort Duquesne) and continues along the Three Rivers Heritage Trail system to reach the Lower Station.
Downtown Pittsburgh Duquesne Incline
Method: Bus Time: 15-20 min
Take the Port Authority Transit (PAT) bus routes with prefixes 21, 26, 31, or 36 from designated stops on Stanwix Street, Penn Avenue, or Liberty Avenue next to the Hilton Hotel. These routes serve the West End section and will take you to the Lower Station of the Duquesne Incline.
Downtown Pittsburgh Duquesne Incline
Method: Rideshare Time: 10 min
Take an Uber or Lyft directly to the Lower Station at 1197 West Carson St. The ride typically takes about 10 minutes from downtown, depending on traffic.
Pittsburgh International Airport Duquesne Incline
Method: Airport Flyer Bus Time: 60-75 min
Take the 28X Airport Flyer bus from the airport to downtown Pittsburgh. This bus makes limited stops between the airport and downtown. From downtown, transfer to one of the bus routes that serve the Duquesne Incline area (21, 26, or 31 series).
Pittsburgh International Airport Duquesne Incline
Method: Rideshare Time: 30-40 min
Take an Uber or Lyft directly to the Lower Station at 1197 West Carson St. This is the fastest but most expensive option from the airport.
Duquesne University Duquesne Incline
Method: Bus Time: 15-20 min
From Duquesne University (600 Forbes Ave), take one of the many bus routes that connect to downtown, such as the 61C or 71B. Then transfer to one of the buses that serve the West End (21, 26, or 31 series) to reach the Duquesne Incline.
Duquesne University Duquesne Incline
Method: Walking + Light Rail Time: 30-35 min
Walk to the nearest Light Rail station from Duquesne University (about 3 minutes away). Take the RED line toward Palm Garden station. From there, walk approximately 15 minutes to reach the Lower Station of the Duquesne Incline.
