Mark Zuckerberg is preparing to sack thousands of low performers at Meta as part of a productivity drive that “celebrates aggression”.
The US billionaire has unveiled plans to cut and replace 5pc of the company’s lowest performers – equivalent to around 3,600 staff – in the coming months.
In a memo to staff on Tuesday, first reported by Bloomberg , Mr Zuckerberg said: “I’ve decided to raise the bar on performance management and move out low-performers faster.
“We typically manage out people who aren’t meeting expectations over the course of a year, but now we’re going to do more extensive performance-based cuts during this cycle.”
Meta, like most large tech companies, regularly culls low-performing staff with the aim of “backfilling” or replacing them, rather than reducing employee numbers overall.
Mr Zuckerberg is using this strategy to axe the latest batch of staff, although he has vowed to remove low-performers quicker than usual.
Meta’s chief executive has presented a more cut-throat personality in recent days, announcing plans to oust “politically biased” fact-checkers and remove diversity and inclusion programmes.
